DERRICK SPAFFORD
Derrick Spafford has over 25 years of competitive running and coaching experience. He started running as a teenager when he discovered he enjoyed the off-season training for hockey more than hockey itself. Derrick has been a member of the La Sportiva Running Team since 2006, and he has a running streak which dates back to 1989.
Derrick has competed in hundreds of races over the years in distances up to 100 miles; from track to trail to mountain races and the 135 km Rock and Ice Ultra held over three days in the Northwest Territories. In the fall of 2008 he competed in his first 100 mile race at the Haliburton Forest Trail Runs, and won the race in a time of 18:42. The following year he bettered his time by 50 minutes, finishing in second place (and below the previous course record time).
Derrick's passion for running is obvious to his clients and those he speaks to about running. He operates his own coaching and event management company, Spafford Health and Adventure.

SARA MONTGOMERY
Sara Montgomery began running in her twenties when she started missing the activity that team sports had provided in her youth. It was a passion that escalated after completing her first of six marathons in Chicago in 2001. Since then she has veered off-road and enjoys trail and snowshoe races. She has won the Haliburton 50k trail race three times, and in 2009 won the three-day K-Rock event at the Rock and Ice Ultra.
Along with Derrick, Sara has enjoyed some memorable multi-day fastpacks over the years. For their honeymoon they spent three days on the Rideau Trail in eastern Ontario, and the next year they completed the La Cloche Silhouette Trail in Killarney Provincial Park.
Sara has been a member of the La Sportiva Running Team since 2006.

- Diploma in Geographic Information System from Fleming College
- Over 12 years experience in fields of GIS (software programmer) and Education (Institutional Research Analyst)
